About the report

The development impact of the DEG portfolio is recorded using the Development Effectiveness Rating (DERa) tool for each customer and presented in two pillars:

Pillar I: “Impact of our clients” across five dimensions: decent jobs, local income, market and sector development, environmental stewardship and community effects.

Pillar II: “Transformation promoted by DEG” considering four aspects: structuring, implementation of environmental and social standards, technical assistance and Impact climate commitments.

Since 2024, DEG has been using the DERa to assess its customers’ positive as well as negative effects and offset them against each other to derive a net perspective in the overall assessment.

Unless otherwise indicated, the data in this report have been taken from DEG’s 2025 monitoring reports based on the most recent customer data available. The monitoring reports encompass data for approximately 530 customers in the portfolio (only active customers where a disbursement was made). Fund investee data have not been updated for technical reasons and were therefore carried over from the previous year. They continue to provide a reliable data basis, as changes in the group of investees only have a minor impact on the aggregated results overall.

Definitions:

Direct customers = companies, financial institutions and project financing

Indirect customers = investees, i.e. companies invested in via funds

Portfolio companies/all DEG customers = companies, financial institutions, project financing and funds or their investees

The number of indirectly employed people, the indirect contribution to local income and – where no real data are available – greenhouse gas emissions are modelled using the Joint Impact Model (JIM).

The development impacts presented in this report are not attributed to the level of investment by DEG as the reporting institution. The reported values reflect the overall impact of the activities of the portfolio companies and are not proportional to the financial contribution of DEG.
